    Beer In The News

Here we go, with another link round up. Beer keeps being headline worthy, and that’s a good thing.

Marketplace traces the exportation of Oregon’s “Growler Culture.”

The Craft Can vs. Bottle Debate rages on, and drinkers & bloggers weigh in to taste test.

The Economist reviews America’s Prohibition hang over, which laws are being laxed and why.

And last but not least, the Czech Republic experiences (another?) beer boom.

    Cheers!

    Dear Brouwerij Lane,
You’ve been my favorite. We’ve had so much fun. I love your half pints, your atmosphere, the corner you sit on. I love your wood burning stove, neighborhood puppies, and Star Wars wall paper. I promise you will always have a special place in my heart. But I have to be honest. Perhaps you have noticed some distance lately. I only visit on my way to dine with Pauly Gee. I don’t respond to your emails. But I haven’t been faithful.
I’ve been toying around with Good Beer. I tried. Maybe something will work out one day, but things are just a little…dry. Its more of stop in and get-it to go kind of place. We don’t have much in common yet. Maybe when the back opens up, things will be different. I flirted with Eastern District, but there was some hard to get - and just too much distance.
Now I want to tell you think I may have found someone new. Who knows, it may not work out. But it’s worth a shot. Especially when I know that you will always take me back.
So long for now,
Blager

ohhleary: What happens when you have writers who know nothing about beer (or Brooklyn) write about beer (or Brooklyn) →

It’s funny, because I JUST finished a G.chat conversation with my friend about this. Brouwerij Lane has a great tasting room where you can drink pints, or refill your growler in a lovely atmosphere. Beats the hell out of buying beer out of a sterile drug store. I would love to know how the DR executives define hipster btw…Lastly, if DR knows we don’t like chains (which is one thing the article got right) why does DR insist on going ahead and opening up 2 stores in very close proximity to each other? And why is NYT Business doing coverage on this and not on the far more interesting business/culinary/brewing happenings all over the BK Borough?

    I’m full of questions.

    ohhleary:

From the NY Times article about the Duane Reade in Williamsburg:

When Duane Reade opened a new store a few months ago in Brooklyn, it faced opposition from residents loyal to a local pharmacy. So it decided to include something in the store that the neighborhood did not have: a bar that…
