Eye-candy. (Eye-booze?) I bring to you some photographic highlights of the 2nd Brooklyn Wort Homebrew Competition. Some note worthy comments include that MY favorite beer was the Ploughman’s Punch by Tristian Lowery, an English mild with a lovely butterscotch aftertaste. Other favorites included Hop Tea, brewed by Patrick Fleming and the Hibiscus Belgian Ale, brought to us by IDrunkThat.com - which also placed 2nd by the judges!
The fact that the crowd voted and judges judged seemed to be a big deal in the makings of this event…however I cannot figure out for the life of me who won the popular votes and who the other picks by the judges were. I only know that the Hibiscus Belgian came in 2nd thanks to Twitter. If anyone has some info on the other winners, I would love to hear.
The next BK Wort competition will take place August 27th for those who are interested.
Brooklyn Beer Happenings. Soak it up.
Its time to wash away those winter blues with pints of booze. And, lucky for us New Yorkers there’s a way to engage in hop-therapy no matter your budget. For those of us who are thin in the wallet, check out Brooklyn Wort, Brooklyn’s Homebrew competition where 30 different competitors will have their homestuff’s available for us to drink and judge (and I LOVE to judge) on February 26th. The 4:30 tasting is already sold out, so you best snap up tickets ($30 - that’s $1 a taste) to the 2:30 tasting if you’re interested.
There’s also a parallel event in Boston for our friends in the second-best-east-coast-city.
Those of you with a little more cash to burn might be interested in Get Real NY’s Craft Beer & Food Festival on March 19th - 20th. $65 will get you 3hrs of cask conditioned ales and corresponding food pairings, or for $80 you can chug-a-lug for a full 4 hrs.
Wort up.
